Where Are We In The Process?

Because of the sheer size and magnitude of such an undertaking, the Project is in one of several phases concurrently. The Design Phase, includes determining visual elements related to the new highway construction, such as landscaping and lighting, the formulation of precise right-of-way needs, historic preservation plans for both sides of the river and future construction timetables. Right-of-Way and Utility Relocation involves making preparations for construction. Finally, preliminary Construction began in 2006. Work on the Kennedy Interchange Section of the Project is expected to begin in 2008*. The entire project is slated for completion by 2024*.

* Schedules are dependent on funding availability.

How Much Will It Cost?

The project is estimated to cost $4.1 billion, which is based on projected inflation throughout the project. Kentucky's portion of the cost will be $2.92 billion while Indiana's share will be $1.15. The schedule and cost are based on the Initial Financial Plan. Click here for more details.
